Samastha Kerala Jam’iyyatul Ulama
Samasta Kerala Jam’iyyatul Ulema, also called Samasta is an association of Sunni Scholars in northern Kerala who follow the shafi’i school of thought. Samasta was formed in the aftermath of 1921 uprisings in Malabar when the Islamic reformist movement with Salafi orientation ‘Aikyasanghom’ began to strengthen its footholds in Kerala.
Samasta was formed as a response to the movement in 1925 at a conference held in Kozhikode Juma Masjid. K.P Muhammad Meeran Musaliyar was elected as the President and Parel Hussain as the General Secretary. On 26 June 1926, the organization reconstituted its leadership positions at Kozhikode Town Hall and grew into a full fledged organization. Varakkal Mullakoya thangal was elected as the President and Pangil Ahmed Kutty Musaliar became the General Secretary.
