Palliveettil Muhammad Moulavi

Palliveetil Muhammad Moulavi (1881-1950) was one of the founding figures of Samasta Kerala Jam’iyyatul Ulema. He was the general secretary of Samasta at the time of its formation. He was born in Kozhikode in 1881 and received education from Muchulli Dars of Kozhikode and Vaniyambadi Arabic College. He served as the general secretary of Samasta throughout, until his death. He died on 12 December 1950.

Major Contributions

Muhammad Moulavi was an expert in Arabic language and worked as a teacher in Himayathul Islam high school and Ganapati highschool of Kozhikode district without any formal degree in Arabic. He kept the records of various conferences held from 1926 by Samastha and published it. The reports published under his leadership were of the conferences held at Feroke, Meenchanda and Karyavattom. He printed and published the first Arabic-Malayalam magazine by Samasta, ‘Al Bayan’. He had a rare collection of Islamic books in possession. They were donated to Jamia Nooriyya by his children after his demise.
